Navy and Gold

In the past few weeks, I've been catching up on current furniture trends.  There seems to be a new phenomenon with the colour navy blue.  But it must be accompanied by gold accents.  




I had this old vintage dresser to try out this new finish on.

Here's the after.

I took the top off, sanded it down, and stained it in a deep walnut.

The hardware was all removed.  I have some bronze and silver guilding wax that is made specifically for hardware.  (You can buy it at any specialty furniture paint store, such as The Painted Bench on Ottawa)

The colour is my own custom concoction.  It is a very deep navy, almost black.

 I also did this beautiful french provincial tallboy in a similar finish.

Both of these pieces were found on the side of the road.  I cleaned them up, painted them, and sold the first dresser within a day of posting it online for $350.  Hurray!  I think I'll do more pieces in navy.

In other news, now that our house renovations are coming to a close (and I will share more pictures of our house soon, I promise) we have started to clean out our coach house.  We knocked down a big room that was built in it out of cinder blocks, which we assumed was used as a meat smoking room.  Once that was gone, the space really opened up.  I bought some fun string globe lights from Target to string across the space.

And of course, all work and no play is just no fun.  We went to an indoor playground last Friday, and all the kids piled onto my lap for a selfie.

Through my whole day, every day, my sweet baby Rose is never far from my mind.  I miss her in all entirety, in every sense of the word. I'm trying to find the proper balance between 'distraction' and 'drowning' in my work - I'm probably border-lining the 'drowning'.  I have lots of fun projects to share. 

I just can't close a post without posting a photo of her beautiful, precious little face.
