Master Bathroom Makeover

Ahhh.... it's finally done.  I love our new master bathroom ensuite so much, last night I just stood there and gazed at it.  It's so romantic, so cozy, so personal.  It took a little while to do, but I have to praise Mark for getting it done.  Without his help - well, I'd still be painting the walls.

This is the before picture.  Yes, it's functional.  But it's not beautiful.  It's not a room that I would want to spend extended amounts of time in.

This is the after.  The walls are painted Martha Stewart's "Bedford".  The tiles are white, the vanity is "Quaker Blue" by Homestead House.

Mark found these crates thrown out behind an old apartment building one night when he was on a walk.

The vanity from the other end of the bathroom.

The frame came from an aution, and I got a piece of mirror cut to fit in it.  Total cost: $17.

The flooring came from the Habitat For Humanity Restore.  It was $30.  We literally had  1 inch leftover.  Whew!

And of course, the lovely vanity.

I searched and searched for the perfect curtains.  I scoured Fabricland, European Textiles, and other high-end textile stores on Ottawa Street.  When I fell in love with a style, the price tag was too high.  After weeks of looking, I came across these in Ikea.  Lame, I know.  But they were $30 for both panels.  You can't make them for that - so I caved.  I must say, they are gorgeous!  I should trim them, but I kind-of like the way they bunch.  It makes them look more flowey.

So let's do a project total:

Flooring: $30
Wall Paint: $25
Tile Paint: $20
Curatins: $30
Vanity: $70
Mirror: $17
Light: $12

Total:  $204

While flipping through the lastest edition of "Style At Home" magazine, I noticed their 'high' and 'low' rooms.  Their 'high' rooms ran around $15,000.  Their 'low' rooms were around $2,000.  And that's not including the flooring and wall paint.  I'd say we're doing pretty good!

This was my colour pallet inspiration:

And these were two bathrooms which also inspired me:

Well that's all for now.  My current project is a teal buffet, which is getting redone in the front hallway.  It will be lovely.  This past weekend, we sold three pieces, which was nice.  January was a big slump - and as soon as February hit, we're back in business.  Happy!

  1. I love it! What a transformation. I am still thinking about painting my coffee table teal but having a hard time deciding on the color.

  2. It's amazing that a trash could still be useful and could create a design statement for this bathroom. The crate gives your bathroom a rustic touch, which is so beautiful. It was a big transformation. It looks elegant and functional. -Majestic Exteriors
